BUILT AROUND YOUR APPLICATION
Understand the difference between V and VS.
Evaluate the pump and system together. Suction lift, solids, operating speed, and total dynamic head all affect the selection.
01 / PRODUCT DETAILS
Ultra V Series
Single-stage Ultra V pumps combine self-priming operation with solids-handling hydraulics. Review the specific pump curve, material options, and installation requirements for your service.
02 / PRODUCT DETAILS
VS with UltraMate
The staged VS arrangement connects an UltraMate unit to an Ultra V pump through a transition chamber. It extends the pressure capability for duties beyond a single-stage configuration.
03 / PRODUCT DETAILS
Service and layout
Manufacturer features include an externally removable suction check valve and serviceable rotating components. The staged layout offers discharge-position options; confirm the selected model’s dimensions and access requirements.
Self-priming does not mean dry-running capability. Follow the selected model’s manual for initial filling, priming, allowable suction conditions, and operation.
APPLICATION GUIDANCE
Match the equipment
to the operating conditions.
Calculate the system requirement
Provide the normal and maximum flow, static lift, piping losses, and discharge pressure. Include the expected operating range rather than one isolated maximum.
Review the suction side
Describe the source liquid level, suction lift, pipe size and length, fittings, and temperature. Priming behavior depends on the installation and operating conditions.
Identify solids and service needs
Include solids size, fibers or rags, abrasion, operating hours, and access constraints. Send nameplate photographs when replacing or servicing an existing unit.
HUDSON PUMP & EQUIPMENT
Talk through the details.
Hudson can help frame the pump selection and compare the proposed arrangement with the application requirements. For an existing installation, share operating observations and maintenance history alongside the nameplate details.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Before you specify.
What is the difference between Ultra V and VS?
Ultra V is the single-stage arrangement. VS combines Ultra V and UltraMate components in a staged assembly for higher-head requirements. Use the applicable curve to confirm the duty.
Does self-priming eliminate startup preparation?
No. Follow the pump manual for initial liquid fill and commissioning. Suction piping integrity and the operating liquid level remain important.
Can an existing V installation be converted to VS?
A conversion requires review of the exact pump, drive, foundation, piping, controls, and required duty. Ask for an application review before ordering components.
